Transactional Analysis and PSYCH-K®

1 October 2025

Sometimes you feel strong and balanced. Other times you doubt yourself, withdraw, or feel smaller than others. These inner movements are human and often the result of beliefs formed early in your life or childhood.

Transactional Analysis describes this through the well-known OK Corral model. It is a powerful tool to gain insight into how you subconsciously view yourself and others.

In this blog you will learn:

  • What is Transactional Analysis?
  • What is the OK Corral?
  • Which subconscious beliefs belong to each position
  • How you can transform these beliefs with PSYCH-K®
  • Paula’s first experience with TA
  • A practical exercise you can do today

What is Transactional Analysis (TA)?

Transactional Analysis (TA) is a psychological method focused on communication, behavior, and relationships. According to TA, every person has three ego states:

  • Parent – patterns, norms, and values learned from parents and the systems around us
  • Adult – rational, here-and-now behavior
  • Child – emotions, creativity, and feelings rooted in childhood

In conversations, people subconsciously switch between these states. This determines how we interact and why misunderstandings or conflicts sometimes arise.

TA helps you recognize and break through these patterns. It is often used in coaching, therapy, personal development, and organizations to communicate more effectively, improve relationships, and gain control over your behavior.

The OK Corral: Four Life Positions

The OK Corral (also called the “OK quadrant” or the I’m OK – You’re OK model) shows how people view themselves and others. It gives insight into your basic attitude in communication and relationships.

You are OK You are not OK
I am OK Win-win position – connection, equality, respect (healthy balance) Superior behavior – dominance, distance, mistrust
I am not OK Inferiority – people-pleasing, dependence, self-sacrifice Hopelessness – depression, alienation, self-rejection

We all move through these positions depending on the situation. But when one position becomes your automatic mode, it affects your relationships, work, and happiness.

The good news: these attitudes are not your identity. They are beliefs and patterns you can recognize and transform.

Typical Beliefs per Position

Life Position Limiting Beliefs Empowering Beliefs (for PSYCH-K®)
I’m OK / You’re OK x – It is safe to be myself
– I trust myself and others
I’m not OK / You’re OK – I’m not good enough
– I must prove myself
– I am valuable as I am
– My opinion matters
I’m OK / You’re not OK – You don’t understand me
– I can do it better alone
– I choose openness and connection
– I enjoy working together
I’m not OK / You’re not OK – It doesn’t matter anyway
– Nobody is good, not even me
– I have thoughts, I am not my thoughts
– Change is possible for me, step by step

From Insight to Transformation with PSYCH-K®

Insight into your life position is valuable. But real change happens when you transform the beliefs in your subconscious—and that’s exactly what PSYCH-K® makes possible.

While many people spend years talking about their patterns, PSYCH-K® offers a direct way to change your self-image, confidence, and inner safety. With simple yet powerful balances attuned to your brain and body, you install beliefs such as:

  • “It is safe for me to take up space.”
  • “I am equal to others.”
  • “I can stay connected without losing myself.”

My First Introduction to TA

In 2007, I discovered Transactional Analysis. I was immediately drawn to it: finally, psychological models that were simple, clear, and recognizable. TA, developed by Eric Berne, is known for its insightful diagrams that resonate instantly. Berne, a psychiatrist in the 1960s, was frustrated by the complex jargon in his field. He believed clients should understand themselves too. He was ahead of his time.

I recognized myself in this philosophy and loved working with TA. My clients appreciated the clarity and insight the models offered. Yet I noticed something important: the change stayed at the cognitive level. You understand why you react strongly, but that doesn’t automatically change your reaction. TA provides insight, but the process is intense and demands constant awareness. The moment your attention drops or stress increases, you fall back into old patterns.

Only when I discovered PSYCH-K® did true transformation become possible. TA gives clarity about why you do what you do, PSYCH-K® gives you the tools to rewrite subconscious beliefs. TA brings awareness, PSYCH-K® enables transformation.

Exercise: “From Survival to Connection”

Step 1 – Where are you now?

Read the four positions and feel which one you recognize most. Choose a situation that is challenging for you. Which attitude do you take?

  1. I’m OK – You’re OK → I feel safe and connected
  2. I’m not OK – You’re OK → I feel inferior or dependent
  3. I’m OK – You’re not OK → I withdraw or don’t trust easily
  4. I’m not OK – You’re not OK → I feel hopeless or disconnected

Step 2 – What do you (subconsciously) believe?

Choose from these beliefs or add your own:

  • I’m not good enough
  • I must prove myself
  • Others don’t understand me
  • If I show myself, I’ll lose people
  • The world is unsafe
  • I am too much
  • I don’t belong

Step 3 – What do you want to believe instead?

Formuleer een nieuwe, ondersteunende overtuiging:

Old Belief New Belief (for PSYCH-K® Balance)
I’m not good enough I am valuable as I am
Others can’t be trusted I trust myself and feel safe with others
I must prove myself I am enough without conditions

These beliefs can be integrated with a PSYCH-K® balance so they become anchored in your subconscious, that’s where true change happens.

In Conclusion: You’re OK. And so is the other.

The path to connection starts with awareness: noticing when you drift away from “I’m OK, you’re OK,” and gently bringing yourself back with compassion.

With PSYCH-K®, you don’t have to walk that path alone. You create a new inner reality where safety, trust, and connection come naturally.
