1 December 2025

The holidays are often portrayed as a magical season filled with joy, warmth and connection. But honestly, for many people December feels more like a marathon than a break. Buying gifts, planning family visits, wrapping up deadlines and trying to stay cheerful in the process. It is no surprise that this time of year brings so much stress.
In the past few years I have learned that the holiday rush does not ease on its own, but you can learn to respond differently to what is happening around you. And that starts with kindness. Kindness toward yourself and toward all the expectations you might be carrying.
1. You do not have to be everywhere
During the holidays it can feel like you are being pulled in every direction: family, friends, work, social events, obligations. But the only person who decides where you are or are not is you.
It is completely fine to choose rest over yet another packed schedule. You are not missing out by setting boundaries; you are simply gaining space.
2. Give yourself permission to keep things simple
We often set the bar far too high. The perfectly decorated table, beautiful gifts, the ideal Christmas dinner. But the best memories are not created through perfection, they come from being present.
What if this year you decided that “good enough” is enough?
A simple meal, small gifts or even an evening with no plans at all. It is all allowed.
3. Listen to your body
Stress does not only show up in your mind, your body speaks too. Maybe you sleep worse, feel irritable more quickly or notice tension in your shoulders.
Do not see these signals as a problem but as an invitation.
An invitation to slow down, to breathe, to return to yourself for a moment.
4. Create space for something that supports you
In all the busyness it is easy to lose yourself. That is why it helps to intentionally schedule moments that recharge you: a walk, a meditation, a workout, writing, reading, whatever helps you settle into calm.
Small rituals can be powerful anchors.
5. Remember that connection is not found in grand gestures
The warmth of the holidays does not come from perfectly executed plans but from genuine attention. A real conversation. A hug. A short message. A smile.
When you show up in a calm and authentic way, others can feel that too.
In closing
If the holidays feel stressful to you, know that you are not alone. But also know that you have choices. You have influence. You are allowed to choose calm, simplicity and whatever truly supports you.
And sometimes it just does not work. Sometimes the noise of the outside world comes in so strongly that you get swept up in it. You make decisions based on expectations, opinions or unspoken pressure even though you know that what others think should not matter so much. And yet it happens.
That is exactly where
Not by changing the outside world but by strengthening your inner world.
With
So you can experience the holidays and all the days after from a place of calm, clarity and balance.
Maybe that is the most beautiful tradition to begin.
