How are last year’s new year’s resolutions doing?

1 January 2026

At the beginning of every new year, we’re busy coming up with New Year’s resolutions. We want to live healthier, move more, slow down, and take better care of ourselves. But honestly—how often do we actually look back?

This year, I decided to do things differently.

Instead of immediately rushing toward new goals, I started with a simple yet confronting question:
How are my New Year’s resolutions from last year actually doing?

  • What came of them?
  • Which ones did I achieve, and which ones did I (not yet)?
  • Which ones turned out to be less important than I initially thought?

I invite you to reflect along with me, because this kind of reflection can offer surprisingly valuable insights for making your new resolutions succeed.

My new year’s resolutions for 2025

At the beginning of 2025, I joined a small support group for two months. That helped tremendously to get started and stay focused.

My goals for 2025 were:

  • I am healthy and fit.
  • I can comfortably run 5 kilometers.
  • I can sit in a car for two hours without getting out stiff.
  • My body is optimally nourished.
  • I am strong and well balanced: I can swing on the monkey bars and walk on a balance beam, both forwards and backwards.

Ambitious? Absolutely. But also concrete and measurable.

How did I plan to achieve this?

Movement

  • Running 3 times a week using the Watch to 5K app
(After reaching 5 km: 2 times a week)
  • Strength training 3 times a week for 35 minutes
  • Stretching or yoga 2 times a week for 25 minutes
  • In dry weather: practicing on the monkey bars and balance beam once a week

Nutrition

  • No added refined sugars
  • Cooking a healthy meal twice a week

Emotions and Thoughts

  • Addressing limiting thoughts and emotions using Balances as soon as they show up

The evaluation: one year later

What Worked

I feel healthy and fit. I’ve built consistency in my workouts and now exercise almost daily—even when I’m away for a few days teaching workshops.

My strength training has truly paid off.

I can now swing across the monkey bars. That feels like my biggest achievement of 2025. Since 2020, we’ve had monkey bars in our garden, and for years I couldn’t do much more than hang from them. Now I swing across like a (slightly geriatric 😉) little monkey.

The goal related to long car rides was also successful: I get out of the car smoothly, without stiffness.

What didn’t (yet) work

Running 5 kilometers didn’t happen.

When I reached 20 minutes of continuous running, my knees started bothering me and I stopped. As a result, I’m currently missing cardio in my routine.

I also notice resistance whenever cardio exercises are suggested in my current workouts. That’s a clear signal: this area needs attention. For 2026, I want to consciously explore this and find a form of cardio that suits my body better.

Nutrition: An Honest Score

I would rate the resolution “my body is optimally nourished” an 8 out of 10.

I paid close attention to my eating habits, although there were periods where I let my own agreements slip. What stood out: every time I did, I felt noticeably less energetic—both physically and mentally.

To further support my body, I also worked with a mesologist to optimize my gut microbiome.

Healthy cooking

I’m no kitchen queen, but I do value healthy food.

Cooking healthy meals twice a week was achievable. It does remain a challenge when I’m traveling for workshops; many places lack herbs, good oils, and proper kitchen tools to cook something truly tasty and nourishing.

Unexpected Bonus Results

Although they weren’t goals, they’re worth mentioning:

  • I lost 2 kilos (from 55 to 53 kg)
  • My body fat percentage dropped from 33% to 30%
  • My bra size went from 80 to 75

No focus, yet results.

Emotions and Thoughts

Addressing limiting emotions and thoughts is almost second nature to me. With PSYCH-K® and the work I do, I have plenty of tools available. So yes, I actively worked on this as well.

And you?

Looking back can be confronting, but it’s also incredibly clarifying. Not to judge yourself, but to see what works, what needs attention, and what you might be ready to let go of.

So… How are last year’s New Year’s resolutions doing for you?

You might just find that the key to a far more successful new year is already there.
